AVOID THE MISTAKES HUNDREDS OF OTHERS HAVE MADE

This heading really should say hundreds of thousands but we didn’t want to have a crazy long heading to save you all that trouble of reminiscing all the mistakes you’ve ever made in your career.

Where are you within your career, right now? Are you starting out, are you half way through, are you looking at making a change or are you coming to the end of your career and looking back on how you could have done things differently or better?

No matter where you are, answer this one question. “What advice would you have given to your 16 year-old self about your personal growth and your career?” What was it that you told yourself? Would you have listened back then? Or would you have ignored all your inner voices and kept on getting preoccupied of working with a job not knowing where you exactly want to be after?

All of us are never satisfied with listening to our inner voices when it comes to our own personal growth and development. We seek a second, third and fourth perspective that confuse us and could weigh us down in exactly want we need to do and how to achieve it. The best advice anyone can give you is that everyone needs a mentor and not just any mentor who has the technical knowledge but also someone who knows how to personalised their sessions for your unique needs.

The second best advice is you will make career mistakes but use them as learning curves. As cliche as this may sound, we need to talk about this, you need to know that “nobody is perfect” but everyone is all up at working on their imperfections to better themselves at something they’d love to do and pursue.

And the final piece of advice is take a chance. You’ll never know if you don’t try, and what’s the worst that can happen? Richard Branson said, ‘If someone offers you an amazing opportunity and you’re not sure you can do it, say yes – then learn how to do it later.” We’re not telling you to go and accept every challenge thrown at you out there but just keep an open mind for chances you’re not sure about but would love to see yourself give a try.

These 3 golden tips are only prerequisites to assessing yourself but in order to fully assess and evaluate yourself, you need a professional mentor. We watch thousands of people throughout our daily lives struggling with what they should do, they ask the wrong people for guidance, and they end up following poor advice without weighing out the pros and cons of someone who really knows what they’re talking about. Usually we see people asking family members or friends. This is one of the biggest mistakes you can do – sorry to the mums and dads and best mates out there, but you’re not qualified to give the right answers for the next generation of leaders who need solid career or personal advice.

So, don’t make the mistakes hundreds of others in your world have made, get yourself a mentor someone who can push you and develop you, to guide you and be honest with you. You need someone who can help you see the opportunities ahead of you and have the courage to take them on with the right mindset for it.

We at Establishing YOU have helped others like you to get clarity in their career or business, while giving honest feedback and actions steps to take their career further – whatever direction it’s going in. Talk to us now for a start and email us at info@thetraininingestablishment.com.au.
